About Katie
Katie grew up in a small university town in Texas. She was an avid dancer, and she spent summers studying dance at the Walnut Hill School for the Arts and the Joffrey Ballet. Even through her studies at university and after her graduation with a degree in mathematics, she continued to dance. She performed with St. Louis Ballet for several years. Her love of dance eventually brought her to tango. She was living, studying and dancing tango in Buenos Aires last year. She just recently moved to Chicago.
Katie was introduced to Pilates through the world of dance in 1998. Her Pilates practice healed a chronic back problem, and it gave her a new understanding of health in the body. Inspired by her own experience with Pilates, she decided to pursue a career as a teacher. Katie completed a teacher training program in the classical Pilates method under Michele Larsson of Santa Fe, New Mexico. She also studied with Rachel Segel and Amy Alpers and graduated from their year long teacher training program at The Pilates Center in Boulder, Colorado. The Pilates Center teaching training program is one of the most respected, rigorous programs in the world. Katie has been teaching Pilates for over four years now. She not only has a great depth of knowledge about the Pilates method, but also of anatomy and of body movement. She believes strongly in the power of Pilates to restore health to the body.
